Alabama is a tapestry of vibrant colors, and the Britt family is one of its most impressive threads. They’ve woven a story of resilience, success and community engagement. Leading this narrative is Wesley Britt – an economic development representative at Alabama Power, Katie Boyd Britt’s husband (she’s a Cullman native who has made her own mark in Alabama politics) and former professional football player. Britt was born in 1981 in Cullman and graduated from Cullman High School in 2000.

Early life and Education
CULLMAN — Wesley Britt wanted to play college football for Alabama ever since he took up the sport.
Britt, who grew up an Alabama fan in Cullman, graduated from Cullman High School in 2000 and signed with the Crimson Tide that year.
He would go on to start 46 games at left tackle during his four years in Tuscaloosa. He tore ligaments in his knee against Tennessee as a sophomore, broke his leg against the Vols as a junior and hurt his foot during the Senior Bowl before joining the San Diego Chargers as a fifth-round draft pick. Despite missing multiple weeks of each season due to injury, Britt was able to play through those maladies after suffering them against UT.
As a senior, he was tabbed first-team All-American by the CFN (owned by UA alumnus Pete Fiutak), third-team by The Associated Press and second-team by Rivals.com. He also earned Jacobs Blocking Trophy honors as the top offensive lineman in the SEC.
Football Career
Wesley Britt’s time with the San Diego Chargers lasted only a month.

Britt joined New England’s practice squad on Sept. 5 and finished the season on its active roster.
He made his first career start at right tackle during Week 4 of his rookie campaign when one of New England’s regular starters missed two games due to injury.
Britt was inactive for each playoff game until Super Bowl XXXIX when another Patriots’ lineman went down with an injury late in their victory against Philadelphia Eagles at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Even when facing hurdles and changes in his position, Britt’s grit and determination made sure he was re-signed by the Patriots after the 2008 season. His time with New England ended when he was released during final cuts on Sept. 5, 2009. But Wesley Britt proved through these events that resiliency and adaptability were his strengths.
